The program is the "Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Program". This program is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes):
It is designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income;
It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
Those people on this section of YA are for the better part are disabled and qualify for SSI payments.

It like SSDI is the income awarded to disabled people and most of the posters here get that or more.
Many come here seeking advice about what qualifies. Or perhaps the doc said they are unable to return to work and wonder what to expect.
There is a ton of good info given out here at no charge. Some by very knowledgeable people.
Maybe you are in the wrong section if you don't know about SSI.

SSI is Supplemental Security Income.
You can get information about SSI from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Not every PWD claims to get SSI and/or SSDI. There is one Disabled PWD that I know about and they work for their town/city and they admit that they do not get SSI and/or SSDI.
Both me and my only child are SSA Certified-Registered Disabled PWDs. I get SSI and my child gets SSI and SSDI.
The reason why I admit that both me and my child draw Federal Disability Checks from the SSA is to let everybody know that me and my child are NOT members of the A-DPW (Admirers, Devotees, Pretenders, Wannabes) Community and that both me and my child ARE SSA Certified-Registered Legitimate Genuine Disabled PWDs and that both me and my child ARE members of the PWD Community.

Everyone doesn't claim to have it. Not every disabled person has it either. I and my two young adult children are all disabled - they get SSI - I don't.

A lot of people seem to qualify for it including children with some slight mental disturbance like ADD. They call them looney checks and they seem to collect easily if they get a doctor to certify some illness.
