Trading in a Toyota Prius post recall...?
My sister has a Toyota Prius and with all the recalls happening would like to purchase another vehicle. We've gone to a few car dealerships and each time we mention trying to trade-in, it seems to be a sort of kiss of death. No one wants to even entertain the idea. What options does a person dealing with the recall fall-out have? Any help/advice you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Toyota Prius isn't a bad vehicle......its just a software glitch... you can take it to your dealer and have it fixed...it will only take an hour + $5-6 of gas.
Think about it....
would you rather spend more than 18 grand on a new car or just have your software upgraded and spend around $5 on gas.....
This is not a kiss of death.....any car can become kiss of death....HUMAN ERROR
I can assure you that selling this vehicle will be a challenge & in buying, you will lose more than what you already have.
I'd rather just have the software upgraded....

I'll be completely honest with you. I'm a "Ford" guy, so I'm being honest here.
The media is going in overdrive on the Toyota recalls. None of what is happening is as serious as it is made out to be. The chances of your sisters Prius having the braking issue are very slim. There is a fix in the works for it, and it will be soon.
For now, keep the car. Toyota builds a wonderfully reliable, quality vehicle. I have no doubt that post all of this recall stuff, she will be very satisfied with it.
The reason you may feel like people don't want to take the car as a trade is because Toyota's are an unknown right now. Dealers don't know how much to pay for them because of the media madness that is going on, and how much they are actually worth.
I have faith in Toyota, even though I'm not a Toyota "guy." They have built fantastic vehicles for more than 60 years. This is just a lull.
Weather the storm, and your sister, I'm sure, will love her Prius.

The recalls are 99% media hype to get ratings. There really is no reason she should trade it in. In a couple of months the entire thing will be over (once the media ratings for "Toyota recall" lower as people get tired of hearing about it). Honestly, if this was a GM or Ford recall it would be page three news. There is nothing unsafe about her Prius.

To ALL IGNORANT PEOPLE: The 1st recall was that people never read manual and used hooks that are for keeping mats from moving. Nobody hurt or in a accident because of. Next the 1"x1" piece they are putting in will keep rug from moving. As faras brakes they are ABSand no one knows how they work or care until they need them. 1st the emergency brake is back up for a car with ABS-not putting in drive. Second is they do not stop like without as you pump them to stop faster and do not skid which is what people are used to so they think something is wrong. all media and government hype. If Toyota left US, they employ morepeople then all other cars made in US and have more factories. Also have averaged 12 billion a quater in profit. If they left we would be in an instant reccion like we nevr saw. Obama has or will give them a long term ballooning note to pay for down time and another president to worry about.
Toyota is so powerful that the union was going to go to work forthem and Toyota has all employees able and do 5 stations wheras union said "no, just 1" and pay cuts. After 1 hour they agreed tto their way of making money.Prius is selling fine in US at over msrp with waitinglist. NONE OF ANY RECALLS WERE NEEDED BUT SINCE WE, *NOT ME)BELIEVE THE NEWS ON tv OR NEWSPAPER WHO HYPED THEM AND hONDA WHICH DOES HAVE BIG PROBLEM WITH AIRBAGS GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING. No accidents were blamed on toyota just ignorance on car ownerspart.

You have to take it to a Toyota dealer. Not so much because of the recall.... but that it has 5,300 worth of batteries that will have to be replaced in a few years. Who wants to put that much money into a car in that old.
No one knows how much money those battery will take until they get there.
If she is selling because of the recalls tell her it is not a good reason. The problem will be fixed.

Try Hyundai. My son sells Hyundais and I'm pretty sure he said they were taking Toyotas that were on the recall list.

What is more important, money or your life?
Just take out a loan and buy a reliable American car. You can always pay back the loan, but you can't get another life.
Be smart, buy American.
Also, the reason why no dealership will trade in a Toyota is because Toyota will file for Chapter 11 very soon, which means that their cars will be worthless...
I will pray for you and your sister's life. Be safe :)

Get rid of that thing while you can. Read about the lack of green footprint for the Prius related to the environmental costs to make and then replace the batteries and then dispose of them and the whole concept of it being energy saving and environmentally friendly is just stupid.
