Why pray the rosary when the bible does not support it?

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.

2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.

9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.

14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.

15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination

FIRST STATEMENT:

Jesus calls himself ONE with his father. (the holy spirit) NEVER does he call mary his mother.

Joh 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

To call Mary his mother would be equal to calling her "father" and making her "god"

POINTS IN THE ROSARY PROMISE

1) (Mat 28:18), Jesus said HE has ALL the power in heaven and earth, what power then does Mary have? If Mary chose to do give mercy to a person God did not chose by what power could she use to resist God? If she resisted God she would go to hell. (Rom 13:2). Jesus said you can NOT serve two masters! (Mat 6:24). Do you serve Mary or Jesus

2)When did Mary die on the cross to have the power over sin to give "grace", when did she become our saviour? Tit 1:4

3) when did repeating a prayer while moving beads become "ARMOR". The righteousness and truth of God is our ARMOR! (2Co 6:7) God opened HIS armory ( Jer 50:25) where is the armory of mary? The lawgiver has the power to destroy! (Jas 4:12) defeating heresies is done by knowing truth (Joh 8:32) and that truth is Jesus (Joh 14:6)

4)- saving space-some editing

5) Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Jesus is NOT a rosary

9)Jesus went under the earth and delivered the captives, NOT a series of recited prayers. (Eph 4:8)

11) ASK of Jesus not, a rosary. 1Jn 3:22-23 and keep the comandment of Jesus not a prayer.

I don't think God pays gives special favor because you say a certain prayer many times. Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

please give me a verse that gives a "promise" of/from mary in the bible

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Mar 2:7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Tit 1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour

2Co 6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left

Jer 50:25 The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and

Update:

rivky: this is not a rant. I have stated my position and was asking a catholic why a "prayer" would do certain things when Jesus said HE would be the doer of them. as in "the rosary will deliver", I stated my position that it is Jesus that delivers and gave ref. to the point. the "blessing of the rosary" seems condradictive to the scriptues. How can a person belive and faith in opposing doctines.

Update 2:

Respect My Authoritah:

I directly coppied the "blessing" from a cathalic post and went to the highlighted website, I may have not spent years in study but I did study before I asked.

Update 3:

mo in the middle:

I asked because I did not understand, I neither condemed nor judged. I asked, because they belive in the words of God and yet do something diffrent. I only stated the facts that were written and asked why the diffrence in belief and action. THis has nothing to do with NANNY NANNY BOO BOO

Update 4:

Gismoll:

I don't disagree with the blessing, scripture says so but, point 14 says "the rosary" will make you a son of mary, bro of God.

1Jn 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

THis verse says to me that it is LOVE from God that makes us a "son of God" not bro. of God and it is given to us from the love of God not from the number of repatitions of a prayer.

please show me the verse in the bible that says God placed Mary as the queen of heaven over angels and men. I have found a few ref. to queens, sheba, tahpenes, maachah, vashti, esther,

candance. I could find not other ref. to queens except in the beook of Rev. and this scripture.

Update 5:

I did find a passage about the "queen of heaven" but it seems to me that because Judah prayed to this "queen of heaven" God removed himself Judah. They were living in egypt and I guess she was an egyptian godess, I did not find a ref. to where he gave Mary this title of a godess. please get this to me. I give the passage below.

Jer 44:25 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.

26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.

    A very long rant.

Mary's obedience to God and closeness to Jesus made her holy. Our nearness to Jesus makes us Holy.

Our contemporary understanding of the word queen would be that of someone in highest authority. But what happens to the queen when there is a king. Then who has the authority? In commonwealth law, when there is a king, the queen has absolutely no authority whatsoever except perhaps the quiet of a whisper in the king's ear to influence a decision. (Jn 2:3)

JESUS IS KING. He is it. Now if Mary is Queen, it means that she has no authority whatsoever over his decisions except a whisper in his ear (Jn 2:3). So I don't believe that calling Mary the Queen of the Universe diminishes the King's (Jesus') authority in the least. In fact it reinforces it. What respectable King does not have a Queen? Revelation 11:12 says:

12 :1 A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. 5 And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne..

Jesus only had one Mother and this passage is talking about the woman that gave birth to the Saviour. She has a Crown. The passage also clearly shows Mary as an active participant in the war against the devil. The Passage presents Jesus on his rightful throne. What respectable King does not have a Queen?

In the Bible, Mary clearly spells out her role in eternity:

    My soul magnifies the Lord,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

    For He has regarded the lowly state of his maidservant;

For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. (Lk 1:46-49)

The Bible says Jesus is magnified by Mary's soul. A soul is eternal and not limited by life on earth. Mary reinforces her eternal ministry by saying "all generations will call me blessed." If the Bible intended Mary's ministry to end with the birth of Jesus, or at his death, or even at Mary's death, it wouldn't use that language.

Catholics believe Mary's soul still "magnifies the Lord" for Christians of our generation who choose to relate to her. Currently, Catholics are pretty well the only ones upholding the biblical prophesy to call her blessed, which was intended for all generations, and for all Christians.

Well first of all, if you're praying the rosary to Mary or any other saint, you're doing it wrong. The hail marys are there to help you meditate (i.e. concentrate) on the life of Christ (the mysteries), hence a prayer to Christ, not Mary. Praying to a saint is not all over the bible, but you have to remember that there were no saints in heaven yet. Of all the righteous people that had lived up to that point, only Moses and Elijah had gone to heaven, and Jesus spoke to both of them in scripture. That's right. A grand total of both saints in heaven were spoken to in the bible. If that's not good enough, I don't know what is. But wait, there's more! (act now and you'll get...j/k) Revelations 8:3-4 describes an angel as a caretaker of the prayers of those on earth. If he can hear them and take them on to God almighty, why could saints not do so? It would make no sense to allow angels but not saints to do this thing. Furthermore Psalms 29:1-2 is literally a prayer TO an angel. Again, if people can pray to angels, why not the saints in heaven? Always keep in mind that the word "pray" means only to "ask". You've seen it used this way if you've ever read or watched anything by Shakespeare ("I pray thee, tell me...") So asking (praying) saints in heaven to pray for you is no different than asking (praying!) saints on earth to pray for you, except that the ones in heaven are far closer to God. Also remember that while something may not be in the bible (though praying to saints is in a way), that does not mean that it is forbidden. Is your computer in the bible? Or altar calls? Or any number of any other things? Of course not. And yet they are allowed because they don't contradict the bible.

    Why pray the rosary?

Because it's a powerful prayer. James 5:16 says the prayer of a righteous person avails much. St. Mary is in Heaven and our prayers are therefore more effective.

Does the Bible support the rosary?

The first part of the Hail Mary is Scripture quote right from Luke 1. "Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee" is the angel Gabriel's greeting to Mary. "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb" is Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. The last part is a petition for prayer asking her to pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

For more on asking saints in heaven to pray for us see 'Any Friend of God's is a Friend of mine.' http://patrickmadrid.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/0...

First, you know this is way too long.

Second, you could have just ended with the first question asked.

Third, the entire Bible supports prayers.

Fourth, Jesus appeared in the apparition with His mother and told the man that this is His mother and to listen to her. So, Jesus did support the rosary.

Fifth, the Bible doesn't support Lent but we still have it.

Your rewritten version of the holy word specifically omitted all of the truths of Christianity. Just like you guys changed the 10 commandments and then go right around and condemn us for "idol worship" when, if you knew anything about Catholicism other than what your nutty Protestant preacher told you, you would know that this is far from the case. You people are heretics and blasphemers in the eyes of the lord. You revolve your religion around yourself and God, not praising His holy name.

How about you "do some learnin' " down at the library before you spout your heretic nonsense.

The whole point of God sending His Son Jesus Christ to earth to die on the cross for our sins was to make a direct route to Heaven for those who believed that Jesus is our Redeemer. Nothing else is needed for our redemption but Jesus. I personally am very thankful of my early understanding of Christianity. Jesus made a way for me to know His word. When the time comes, everyone will know what is expected of them to be counted in Jesus' number to be Heaven-bound and then the time will be ripe to choose. There will still be many who will make the wrong choice.

    Prayers of the rosary:

Our Father, Hail Mary and meditation on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Tell me, if it is NOT biblical.

  • Yay!!

I agree with you. The rosary is a great prayer to God.

Hail Mary, FULL OF GRACE. THE LORD IS WITH THEE, Blessed art thou among women, AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF THY WOMB.

Mary is full of the GRACE OF GOD, and the Lord is with her. She is being given special blessings since she is the Mother of Jesus. However, notice the fruit of her womb (Jesus) is considered blessed. The main purpose of the rosary is that it is prayers of meditation upon the life of Jesus from the beginning to the end. Mary is directing all attention to her Son. She agreed to conceive Jesus. Her cousin praised Jesus. Mary gave Jesus birth, presented Jesus to God in the Temple and sought out Jesus who reminded her that He had to do the will of His Father. We see Jesus accepting the will of God in the Garden, was scourged and crowned with thorns, carrying His cross and was crucified. Yet, before Jesus died, Jesus made her our Mother also (responsibility). Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. He sent His Spirit upon the Apostles. Then Jesus praises His Mother by assuming her into heaven to become the Queen of all the angels and man. Her duties are now toward us Her children to bring us also to Jesus and our God. The rosary is her method as our Mother of trying to bring us closer to Jesus. The Bible definitely supports all prayer directed to Jesus.
