Looking for something that supports a cable card.?

I am thinking ahead to my mom's birthday or perhaps Christmas. We have no need for a new TV. I just want something that can accept a cable card and can support HD so we can get more channels in HD besides local channels. I see Toshiba sells a lot of products that have recorders and built in tuners. I just want something that can accept a cable card and has a built in Tuner so I can pay $2.05 per month for HD rather than $7 a month for a set top box. I already know a TiVo has this functionality. Does anybody know of another device that might be cheaper? I wish there was a device that could just plug into an HDMI port that had a slot for a cable card and a built in tuner.

Update:

Set-top box costs $7 a month for hd. A cable card doesn't add to the bill beacause we'll replace our current box.

Update 2:

I know HD is not extra. All HD requires is you have a subscription to digital cable and have a cable card or set-top box to receive the channels. Right now we had an SD cable box. If we lease the HD one, it's $7 more per month. A cable card will not add to our bill because swapping out the box for the card is the same price. I also have a TiVo which I purchased the lifetime subscription. The only thing I had Comcast do is install a cable card. No upgrade to the service was done, just leasing the card. I get 51 HD channels.

It is called a set-top box. You can lease it, for $5/month or buy it. HD programming is extra no matter whether you buy it or lease it.
