Very intriguing. I do not agree with the JW stance on transfusions as sinful, but if from a medical perspective it is a cheaper and healthier alternative, then keep the research going.

Bloodless surgery like other medical advances are very interesting... The techniques invented and expanded upon have wide ranging applications...

For instance some blood expanders do not require refrigeration unlike blood.. Allowing for them to be used in disaster <and other> situations where refrigeration is an issue...

We need only a fraction of our red cells to accomplish adequate oxygen and nutrient exchange blood expanders simply increase the liquid facilitating the movement of blood and allowing the decreased number of cells to do their jobs...

There are still applications in which blood is needed but expanders and other techniques should be studied and improved as there is a place for them as well...

a very dear friend of mine who just passed away relied heavily on blood transfusions to keep him alive whilst battling cancer. doctors gave him almost no hope of survival at the age of 6 when diagnosed. he would have been 25 years old next month.

but he fought very hard and beat the disease for 13 years - into remission. he was creative and artistic, he wrote beautiful music. i miss my friend.

bloodless surgery sounds interesting though. i had a surgery once, and when i awoke they told me that i had been given a blood transfusion. i was shocked.

seems you have to say you are a JW if you don't want to be given blood.

did i really need the blood - did it help me recover quicker ?

i honestly don't know. the shock of being told i had been given blood was a big shock to me. i was not given any choice in the matter, and that was not a good feeling. i was grateful however to be feeling better and recovering - so i chose to be grateful to the blood donors and not to be bitter about it.

Right on, my man. Even the military going bloodless. Very interesting.
