What could this poem mean?

I read this poem in a really old book, and I think it's beautiful.

What do you think it might mean?

An ethereal existence,

Evanescent, yet clear,

Its warmth brushed my soul,

And when it left,

It left me cold.

Empty, and cold as the nothingness before.

It was brief,

And just briefly I saw,

Everything, that I’d never seen before.

Thoughts?

Update:

And also, do you think it sounds beautiful? It's sort of haunting.

It could mean alot of things.

The basic meaning is that the person met god.

Weather that was with the use of drugs, meditaion, church, prayer or something else.

It means that the person met god.

    I think it's a pretty nice poem.Beautiful.

But the meaning of the poem can only be known if I know who wrote it.

I don't think the person was very religious.

Well, you might get a better answer if you could tell us the name of the book and perhaps the author, year published also helps to give a poem context. Most if not all writings are greatly influenced by the world views, culture, background and other factors that were prominent during said time.

You might get a better answer if someone here has read this particular piece before but here's my attempt at interruption.

With just the write, I'd say it's about a brief love relationship and the loneliness returning or perhaps, it's about dying... Like being in the presence of God then woefully being pulled back to the mortal world.

i think it means that aww moment in ur life the one that could change everything. the very thing that was there and is no more, the one that either couldve changed ur life inside or out,

it could even just be a thought, as in something not real that has so much power

It seems like it's either about a deity (god) or maybe regretting a past relationship. Just some speculation.

Source(s): I've written a lot of poetry and enjoy reading it.
