    That would be Ronald Reagan. He was denied membership because they said he was a "flake".

    Reagan in the beginning of the Depression arrived in Hollywood and had heard the Communist Party helped the unemployed, the poor, the homeless and the oppressed. Many people who he respected were party members. So he tried to join. The party leadership determined that Reagan could not carry on a meaningful and intelligent political conversation for more than five minutes. So they decided against giving him membership, but placed him on a list that made him a "friend of the Communist Party."

    Imagine how history would have changed if he was given membership....
