If you know Linux distros (eg. Slax) you can run a live CD through your computer and mount your drives then back up the files through an external source also, if your wanting to learn how to do this get some information about it through google or Linux websites, Linux forums and users are very helpful with support in this area. Then reinstall the OS with your Dell CDs, depending on the laptop age some laptops have got a hidden partition dedicated to running a factory default settings procedure check the manufacturers website for more information about your laptop if it came CD's then you can run those back up CDs to reinstall the operating system. The other way you can back up your files is if you go see a Techy they have ways around your problem for sure to obtain your files.

    Good luck :)

a number of Dell's XPS line of laptops had a illness interior the photos processing chip which brought about it to overheat. there is at present a keep in mind for it. i might advise finding into in the adventure that your sort is affected and sending it in for a sparkling one. in any different case, blow it out with can of air, airborne dirt and dirt interior the air direction of a working laptop or laptop will reason plenty extra hassle than in a working laptop or laptop.

If you were in the south east UK, a typical re-install including backup/archive of your existing files costs around £75 (all inc.). That's the expensive solution.

The cheaper version is for you to locate your XP cd, insert it in the drive and follow the instruction for repairing.
