  • calculus 2 trig substitution ∫ √(1-x^2)/x^4 dx?

    I need to use trig substitution to compute the following integral:

    ∫ √(1-x^2)/x^4 dx

    I know it equals -1/3(√(1-x^2)/x)^3 + C

    so far;

    a=1

    x=sin(θ)

    dx=cos(θ) dθ

    1-x^2=cos^2 θ

    my teacher advised me to draw a triangle which I did, and after substituting my integral is:

    =∫ (√(cos^2 (θ))/sin^4 θ) cos(θ)dθ

    =∫ ((cos^2 (θ) dθ)/sin^4 θ)

    =∫ ((cos^2 (θ))/sin^2 θ) (1/sin^2 (θ)) dθ

    {after u-substitution}

    =-∫ cot^2(θ) -csc^2(θ) dθ

    Now I know I should use the power rule and then back substitue, but I'm not sure where the 1/3 comes from in the final answer, and also if I need to use any more trig identities.

    Thanks very much for any assistance, I'll choose the best answer. Thanks again

    My Physics final is this week and here are the topics my professor has said will be on it:

    1.)Projectile Motion

    2.)Equilibrium; rotational & translational using Σ T / Σ Fx / Σ Fy all = 0

    3.)2nd law - Multiple masses

    4.)energy conservation

    5.)momentum(P) conservation Inelastic-1-D & elastic-2-D

    6.)centripetal force 2nd law

    7.)Angular momentum(L) conservation

    8.)2nd law rotation [ΣT=Id]

    If you could just list a possible question type for each I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, I will rate best answer

  • finding indefinite integral ∫(x²/(x-1)) dx?

    I Know the answer to this problem, but in my calculus class I have to "teach" the problem to the class, so if anyone could explain how to solve it and what's the reason for each step, it would be much appreciated.

    1.) ∫(x²/(x-1)) dx = ∫(x + 1)dx + ∫(1/(x-1)) dx

    2.) = 1/2x² + x + ln (absolute value)(x-1(absolute value) + C

  • Integration problem. By parts I think.?

    The problem is to evaluate the integral :

    ∫(x²/(x-1)) dx

    I'm in calculus 2 and I believe the way to solve the problem is by using integration by parts; mainly because that's what we just learned. Haha. If you could help me solve it, not just give the answer I'd really appreciate it

  • Ebay payment hasn't been received over a week?

    On ebay I sold a track jacket through buy it now and that was already almost two weeks ago. I already messaged the buyer saying to just let me know if they changed their mind but still no reply. S should I report them, or is there a way to alleviate them from the cost and just relist the item. I'm just worried that I'll resell it and then the original buyer tries to say I ripped them off.

  • Help picking a t-mobile smartphone phone?

    I've never had a smart phone and i'm going to be getting one. I'm down to three options from what i've looked up.

    Samsung Vibrant

    T-Mobile G2

    T-Mobile My Touch 4G

    the price on them won't really be a concern in which one I buy.

    I've never had a qwerty keyboard, so I kinda need it easy to use with that.

    I rarely talk on the phone, I usually just text so call quality isn't a concern.

    I want to be able to watch youtube videos and other stuff like that, and be able to simply look something up if I need to.

    I plan on getting a plan with 1000 minutes and unlimited messages and unlimited web.

    Thanks for any advice, and if you suggest a different phone I didn't mention, feel free to suggest. Thanks again

  • how to do simple integration?

    for the integral cos^3 x dx...i broke up cos^3 into (1-sin^2(x)) (cos(x)) dx then through u substitution my u was sin x and my du was cosx dx so then my final integral is the integral of (1-u^2) du. I know the integral of that is -du (u^2-1)x but only through wolfram integral website...My teacher always gets to the final point and says, oh that's a simple enough integral, and it's been so long i forgot how to do that final integration...Could you please explain thank you

  • Use the Shell or Disk method (whichever is easier) to compute the volume of the solid?

    Use the Shell or Disk method (whichever is easier) to compute the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region in the figure below about the following. it's from 0 to 1 and the equation of the line is y= x-x^15

    I need find the area after rotating about the x and y axis...my T.A. said something about drawing it out and turning the paper to help you use the shell method and disk method when the other would normally be used...but he has a strong accent, and i can't really understand him....thank you

  • Calculate the work against gravity required to build a cylindrical tower?

    Calculate the work against gravity required to build a cylindrical tower of height 19 ft and radius 7 ft out of brick. Assume that brick has density 80 lb/ft3. Enter your answer in terms of pi, or as a number accurate to three places after the decimal point.

    I got an answer of 6.934 * 10^6 after trying 9.8 * 80 * 7^2 and then integrated from zero to 19...but i got it wrong so apparently i did it wrong...thanks for any help

  • Calc 2 average value question?

    this is for my calc 2 homework. I don't have the slightest idea on how to do it.

    A ball is thrown in the air vertically from ground level with initial velocity 24 ft/s. Find the average height of the ball over the time interval extending from the time of the ball's release to its return to ground level. Recall that the height at time t is give by the formula below.

    h(t) = 24t - 16t2

  • What food to bring that won't spoil?

    myself and my girlfriend are going to Country Thunder (a four day country concert where you camp there) and I'm not sure what food to bring, and if we're able to leave the site once we've entered or not. I don't really wanna bring a cooler because i'm not sure how ice would survive for four days in the middle of july. So far i've thought of making spaghetti and mixing it with oil so it won't dry out. Canned fruit, apples bananas chips, pb&j, cereal to eat dry, donuts and cookies. Obviously I don't care about health issues, so gimme some more ideas if you could. Thanks.

  • help pick out a cell phone for t-mobile?

    I have t-mobile and I'm about to buy a new phone. I don't want to buy it form t-mobile because i don't wanna be under contract. I've used some friends' phones and I don't want a touch screen, and I text super fast with the normal buttons 0 through 9 because i use the t-9 feature so i don't really want a keyboard. I know i'm pretty picky with this but i like how i deal with my phone now. I've had a razr and a rizr both by motorola, and they;ve worked well. Any suggestions please.
