If you are talking about using it as a receiver then no. I had to use my laptop as a wireless receiver for the network to get xbox live in my dorms last year because they turned off the land-lines. So even if this isn't exactly the question you were looking for I don't see how it would harm your computer if I was able to use mine for essentially the same thing.

I use it all the time, instead of forking out 60 for the wireless adapter. Works fine. :)
