Why do gay people act like it's impossible for someone to change from gay to straight?

I know that most cannot change, but thousands actually have. Why can't active gay people acknowledge that not all people are the same when it comes to being gay. People are unique, some actually have changed. I know someone that has. Thousands admit to it. Why are most gay people so close minded to actually believe and preach that change is impossible. There are no actual facts why people are gay. Just theories. Obviously some people do change Please don't preach against someone wanting to try, if they are unhappy about having gay thoughts. How do you know it won't work in their case. It has in many other ex gay peoples cases.

Update:

Well reef when people ask your help it's not intruding. Practice what you preach and quit being a hypocrite then and why tell me what to do.

Update 2:

There you go showing how closed minded you all are. Just because you can't change does not mean others cant. Out of the billions of people in the world are all of you really that ignorant to think you are all the same..seriously no exceptions.. open your mind

Update 3:

If you really want a list of people, go to narths website, Exodus international, or Evergreen internationals sites. It will satisfy your quota times a thousand

the ones you mention who have supposedly *changed* their sexuality are bisexual

and if you believe a gay man can turn straight then that means you believe you can turn gay

When a straight person marries or otherwise commits to a heterosexual, monogamous relationship, they no longer have sexual relations with other people. This does not mean they are not attracted to other people. They simply suppress the urge to act on any feelings they may have when they see an attractive person walk by. There is no evidence to suggest that 'converted ex-gays' are doing anything more than suppressing their natural urges in order to fit into accepted societal norms.

Having said this, most LGBTs do not lecture that other people cannot change their sexual preferences, but they denounce those people that claim that they can be changed (or 'cured', as some would say). Is it better to believe a LGBT individual about their feelings and attractions or a straight person with no direct experience?

Well I identify myself as gay, I have known this on some level for as long as I can remember..although when I was younger I didn't know what it was that I was feeling - only recently have I realized it. From my experience I know that people who feel like I do couldn't change even if they wanted to - that's why I think that anyone who has changed was either a) not really gay in the first place and just confused or experimenting or b) lying to themselves and anybody who they are in a relationship with.

I think that some of us act like thta because we're so sick of having to defend ourselves. I have heard of some cases that people have claimed to have been "changed" to straight but these cases are so few and far between that they almost always fly under the radar. You also have to bear in mind while some people claim to have been "changed" their behaviour may have been altered but their core sexual preference remains the same. I remember reading a story about a leading activist in "gays changing to straight" been put under the microscope. He had claimed that he had no homosexual desires and wouldn't step foot inside a gay bar again. It was then discovered on CCTV in a gay bar in a neighbouring area that he was a regular customer! He was caught on camera and exposed! I rest my case.....

How many times before it sinks in?

You cannot change a persons sexual orientation. If that were the case straights would be able to turn to gay at the drop of a hat.

Those who claim to have been changed are living a life of lies and self denial and that's no good for anyone.

You only have the ex-gay's words to go on. Anyone could say it works but that does not mean it really does. You can force yourself to think you've changed but if you really are gay, and not just confused, then you can't just switch what your body reacts to. You should really investigate these claims more before you say that people can change their sexuality.

It's easier to self-indulge than to self-control. In their minds, they have no reason to stop, so they don't care.

The only reason that people would want to change is because people like you whisper poison into their ear. Then, you offer ways for them to pretend to be straight for the rest of their life.

I don't feel like being a puppet, and I don't feel like glorifying those who would be your puppet.

i dont believe they actually change i believe they just pretend and live life either without sex or have straight sex. i believe that you are who you are and you can accept it or deny it but youre still you on the inside. I'm a straight woman and if gay was the "norm" i wouldnt be able to change and start being gay. im attracted to men regardless of what others think about it. it just so happens to be the "norm".

No. Thousands actually haven't, you have been seriously misinformed. There are thousands of pathetic lost soul who choose to live a lie and pretend they are "changed".

    Big difference.

I don't see any citations for this outrageously pathetic claim of yours.
