---less sex and bad language in the past

---older movies depended more on the viewer to generate emotion--whether it was fear or excitement or passion. modern movies (and modern movie viewers) depend heavily on adrenaline rushes. That's why modern viewers are never scared or excited by old horror or action flicks.

--older movies didn't focus so heavily on having realistic dialogue. they focused more on having interesting dialogue. sure, it's more realistic for a person to say "why the hell did she come here?" rather than "of all the gin joints in all the world, she had to walk into mine." but which is more interesting? and if I wanted to know what the average person was going to say in a situation, I'd stay home and watch a reality show.

--older movies made some attempt to look at life outside of California suburbs and New York burroughs, but the few times a modern movie does that, it's known as a costume piece. There's a lot more world out there, people! they also had more variety of people. now, all the characters talk and react the same way.

--there was some variety in the appearance of actors and actresses. they didn't look like they all used the same plastic surgeon. plus, the men actually looked like real men as opposed to boys who'd been given estrogen injections.
