Planning to move to Arizona...?

so my bf wants to transfer his job to Arizona because cost of living is much cheaper than where we are at the moment (the Bay Area, go figure!) so I wanted to check what areas are good for apartment shopping (he's been looking on Craigslist already). I also wanted to check out schools (medical admin). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Update:

People seriously take into consideration the real cost of living. Some people say no just because they've lived there all their life. Well I've lived in California all my life & it's time to live comfortable & not always worry about money since this damn state is toooooo expensive!

Update 2:

And so his job is transferrable & was offered the position and it looks like it will be Tucson. Any suggestions?

It is a lot cheaper here than in California. You can rent an entire house here for what a small 1 bedroom apartment costs in SoCal. Groceries are much cheaper. So is gasoline. So are alcohol, and tobacco. It is also a lot freer here in AZ. we don't have quite as many laws as CA yet. Now, as for your apartment, I suggest you make a list of amenities you want in an apartment, then contact apartment finders which is a company that, (surprise surprise) helps you find apartments that suit your needs. Their website is http://www.aptfind.com./

ASU offers courses in medical admin and so does Midwestern University http://www.midwestern.edu/

Paul the cab driver is giving you good information. In fact, the Phoenix area is robust with job growth in the medical field. Just go to CareerBuilder.com or monster.com and look at all the jobs posted in the healthcare field for the Phoenix area. What's nice about the healthcare jobs is that they are not all concentrated in Phoenix proper. Areas like Goodyear, Casa Grande and Avondale all need people and those places are decent suburbs where housing is very affordable like Paul pointed out.

My cities of choice in the valley are Goodyear and Buckeye because they are close enough to everyday shopping needs and still have urban land-breaks to not make me feel trapped in a city.

If you go to ASU you may want to consider Tempe, Chandler or Mesa as a place to live. The goal is to avoid crossing central Phoenix to attend work or school. If your work and school is in the east valley then live there. Conversely if your interests are in the west valley then live there. Just don't live on the westside and have to travel to the eastside everyday.

    Best of luck to you.

Whispering Willows Apartments. Great place for Students and young families. 19th Avenue and Cholla St. right on the North Mountain Preserve. Very nice property owned by the city of Phoenix and managed by Dunlapp and Magee. 1 Bed room is $450, 2bd 2bth 1100 sq. feet is less than $550. Rent goes up a few dollars every couple years. Lots of trade schools within walking/bike distance right on Peoria.

Green grass all year long, big trees, two pools. The management and crew all speak english and don't put up with stupid neighbors.

Been here going on 5 years. I dig it!

I have lived in Yuma ,Az. for some time. I liked it there because it was easy to get around, had all the stores and shops one would need. I loved going over the border to aL gadones to shop and eat and just enjoy my day there because I felt very safe. Also enjoyed the three Casinoes, open all the time for reasonable meals and to go to when I felt bored. Yes, it gets hot in the summer, but air conditioning is in malls, stores , etc.and each home and apts. So much better than when I left there and returned to N.H. Gray, snow, gloomy and depressed. I will return to Az. as soon as possible. I would so much rather have the heat and sunshine. Much more reasonable for food, rentals, etc. Good luck and hope you give it a try..Used to live in Inglewood Ca. , but would never return to Calif. again.

Not cheap here . best stay in Ca. I see way to many move here 90% being from Southern Ca wanting to make AZ like Ca. Why is it so so many that come from a State every bit as beautiful as AZ and in many areas the weather is nicer then AZ. But they screwed up Ca so bad they don't even want to live their Yet they move to AZ and do their best to make us like Ca. Most have to do with the salt water air
