Scottish sayings.............?

I'm looking for things that people in Scotland would say differently than people would in America

Common things like, "Using the bathroom", greetings, things you say when your mad, etc...

Reason being, I'd like to perfect my Scottish accent and use it to fool people but I know that

there are certain things I should/shouldn't say because I would give it away.

Feel free to include pronunciation, Thank you! :)

You'd be introducing a lot of new words if correct. So more than just doing an accent, which only covers the sound. Accent is sort of like different singers singing the same song. The words don't change, just the sound. Anyway...

    - "Haud yer wheist" for example is the equivalent of requesting silence.

    - "Awa'n bile yer heid" is the equivalent of telling someone to get lost.

Have a look here for some basics (check the drop down for more) >

NB: if you go full-on you'd likely confuse most Scots as their own grasp is currently poor. Few know proper Scots at a decent level.

For a start we would usually say "using the toilet" or the "lavvy" (lavatory) to answer your first question. I have seldom heard anyone saying or asking about the bathroom & the only people that say restroom are in the USA.

    Hello - Hiya

    Goodbye - Cheerio

    Thanks - Cheers or Ta

Not sure why you would want to fool anyone, but that's a few phrases for you to get by with.

"If it's not Scottish, it's crap!"
