I'm having a problem putting fuel in my 1999 Cavalier?
I need to put fuel in my vehicle but I'm having a problem with the fuel going into the tank. I insert the hose into the filler tube and start to put gas in, but it backs up causing the supply to shut off. It does not matter how slow I put (fuel) it backs up and goes onto the ground.
Could it be the vent tube is plugged? Or is there a screen/filter built into the filler tube? Thanks.

Some times there is a short piece of rubber hose that connects the filling spout to the actual tank. That could be twisted causing back up.

speedy had it there is a short rubber filler tube, that gets kinked, and I do recall reading about a service bulletin that sometimes the hoses were too long, from the factory, causing the kink. they are relatively inexpensive .
