As a measure of purity, one carat is 1/24 purity by mass:
* 24 carat (millesimal fineness 999)
* 22 carat (millesimal fineness 916)
* 20 carat (millesimal fineness 833)
* 18 carat (millesimal fineness 750)
* 15 carat (millesimal fineness 625)
* 14 carat (millesimal fineness 585)
* 10 carat (millesimal fineness 417)
* 9 carat (millesimal fineness 375)
* 8 carat (millesimal fineness 333)
* 1 carat (millesimal fineness 042)
In the U.S., the caratage for gold jewelry is between 8-18 carat (33.3 - 75.0%)
Also, the coins are gold-plated using electrolysis. Otherwise, they wouldn't sell them.

Obviously 2 karat unless something prevents the metalurgic process. 24 being pure, 10k being half gold. !0k is popular for rings because it does not easily bend,, but is less costly
