When asking why mandating health insurance is unconstitutional but Medicare is not-this was an answer:?

"Medicare is a government entity paid for by tax dollars. Forcing people to buy a product from a private company is a completely different thing. Can they force you to buy a car from GM? Can they force you to buy apples to keep the price down for others who want them cheaper?

There is nothing in the constitution that grants the government the authority to force you to buy somebody else's product. It is an assault on your individual liberty."

SO-if people are mandated to buy the public option as opposed to private health insurance, it is not unconstitutional because you are buying a government's product? Then we really need the public option.

Update:

okay-so just take it out of your paycheck like medicare and no prison sentence, right?

Update 2:

BRAD-THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR ADMITTING THAT HEALTH REFORM AND MEDICARE IS THE SAME CONCEPT, YOU BUNCH OF DENIERS.

Update 3:

All these dimwits-PATTYK-calm down, I am on your side.-the middle class.

The Public Option and Medicare are both equally unconstitutional, as there is no authorization for such programs in the Constitution. If you wish for the government to adopt such programs, there is an amendment process for the Constitution.

Many quote this faulty 45,000 a year die from a lack of health care. This quote came from a biased Harvard study that has little basis in truth and more opinion.

Look at the cancer mortality rates in Europe vs the US. Socialized medicine is all about rationing. Cancer survival rates are 15-20% lower in Europe and GB than in the US. This will equal more than 45,000 deaths a year. Reform the current plan without socializing it and America will be better off. Too bad the current Dems do not want to discuss real reform, just take overs and pork.

No, it IS unconstitutional because you are FORCED to buy a government product. No one goes to prison for not using Medicare or Medicaid.

The public option is that- an option. Remember 45,000 people die each year from having no insurance, You might be one of them- that would change your conservative thinking.

I don't care. The only thing I know is that you should keep your government hands off my Medicare!
