I am looking to modify my mitsubishi eclipse but i do not know what headers are. What are they and what do they do?
I just bought a mitsubishi eclipse so if i got new headers, i would get more hp? and if so like how much? i am already planning on getting a fujita CAI and a greddy catback exhaust

You should not be giving people advice on car's as you did in a previous question, if you don't even know what headers do...
Basic mod's that you should start with are a CAI, Catback, possibly chip it to adjust the air fuel mixture.
Your only going to gain max 10HP with those, if that.
Header's will help more, but then do a full exhaust system with it.
There is no point in having the foot or two of pipe restricted.
A full exhaust system will probably net you about 15HP, including header's without any other modifications.
You can start with some basic bolt on's to help you too. If you want to get quite a bit more power, look into new head's and cam... If your looking for even more power, then consider nitrous and forced induction [supercharger or turbo]. You will have to spend a lot of money however beefing the drive train up, as the 2006 Eclipse drivetrain will not handle all of the extra power from forced induction.
Just to counter your saying.
It's not the difference between muscle vs import.
Next time, buy RWD.
Because FWD sucks.

Headers replace the stock exhaust manifold. They connect the motor to the exhaust pipe. They are usually reccomeneded because they eliminate the catalytic converter, thus allowing the car to "exhale exhaust" easier improving horsepower.
Look at your car like a big set of lungs. The better you can breath in (cold air intake/short ram intake) and the better you can exhale (open exhaust engine back) results in a better feeling (more horsepower)
And yes, headers do eliminate the catalytic converters on many cars. For example, a hyundai tiburon comes with 3 catalytic converters (1 in each exhaust manifold, and 1 on the test pipe) all of which are eliminated by replacing the stock exhaust mainfold with headers.
Bear in mind, headers is plural in this situation because were talking about a V6. 1 header for each side of the block (3 chambers per header).
An inline 4 motor found in civics should be referred to as a header, since all 4 chambers branch together

Headers scavange heat away from your exhaust valves alot faster keeping the engine cooler which will help in creating a bit more horsepower, you should also know that headers do not eliminate the need for catalytic converters, to gain the most horsepower you would need this; 1, cold air intake to force more air through induction system, now after combustion youwant all that heat to get out fast to allow more cold air to continue entering intake, the header pipes are will have one pipe per exhaust port to help reduce temperature aswell, but it dont stop there. Now your headers are scaveging all the heat perfectly only to get trapped in the stock muffler. Mufflers have baffles or chambers to help in noise reduction but also for backpressure reasons which affect performance. Better yet use this rule=) The Faster cold air comes in and the faster the hot exhaust gets out you improve horsepower. 10 degrees lower intake and exhaust temperature equals 3hp at best with the right products.
