What are durable toys for pitbulls?

I think I've tried every toy and only one has outlasted my pitbull. I give him bones now instead of toys cause within 5 min the toy is dead, and the bones only last a couple hours. The kong has been the only thing that has lasted but I want to get him more than one toy. I've tried ropes, tennis balls, rubber toys, stuffed toys (just about everything)

    Tough Toys For Pit Bulls

  • 1 decade ago

hahaha....have you seen the ones labeled "for hard chewers"...or "combat tested"...wow.....I also have a hard chewer and got sick and tired of buying 5 dollar plush toys that last 5 seconds..if that. What I did was this....I do buy him some plush squeaky toys, but I do not allow him to destroy them. We do directed play...we'll ;play hide and seek, or I will give him one and let him chase me, and then I will chase him. We play for about 10 minutes and then I put the toy away. After about a month or 2, it will have some holes in it and I will let him ruin it. For just chewing...I will give him bully sticks...they are the least messy thing and will keep him happy for an hour. He also likes something called Booda bones. Takes a while to eat, even for him.

I have an Anatolian Shepherd/Irish Wolfhound mix and we had a hard time finding a toy that he did not destroy in seconds, even the ones claiming to be indestructible. We finally found a toy at our Vet office that he has yet to destroy, besides the squeaker, but that's okay because it had the worst squeak ever. He loves it because it's like a ball and he can play fetch with it and he will also squish it just for the fun of it in his mouth. LOL. Here's what it looks like:

If you can find one without the feet that is your best bet because from what the Vet Tech said the feet are easily chewed off.

Pets mart has a "durable" section with things such as thick tire like toys. I have a Rottweiler and i have to go to that section to get things because she destroys anything else in seconds.

My puppy does the same thing, he's only half pit bull but goes through these huge bones in one day, just stick with what works, one or two toys and some bones, I know there is one brand my puppy hasn't been able to chew through in weeks I forgot what it was called though . . .

I taught my Pit that if he starts to destroy his toys then I will make him bring them to me and I put them up. He knows that if he wants to play with them then he has to be nice to them. I'm not saying that we don't destroy a toy now and then, but he has gotten alot better about how he treats them.
