does bordetella cause a cat to have a thick mucous coming from the nose?

It can - it's not really common in cats, but that may be because it's under diagnosed (that's the word my vet uses) as many consider it a dog disease. Has your cat already been given a round of antibiotics? If so the thing to do at this point would be to actually take the mucous and have it cultured to see just what bacteria is causing the infection, so that the right antibiotic can be prescribed. While a significant number of bacteria are killed by the basic Clavamox/Amoxi treatment, some of the nastier ones cannot.

It can. Bordetella can cause a lot of problems in your cat once given the treatment. Was it given threw the nose or as a shot? Personally I only allow my animals to get the Bordetella treatment by shot because thru the nose ALWAYS causes more problems and reactions in my animals. I've never had a problem with the shot in any of my animals, but problems can still occur with the shot.

The Bordetella shot/injection is a form of the virus that is dead i.e. flu shot and it can cause fever, mucus excretion, and other symptoms in your pet. If your cat does not get better within the next 24-48 hours you will need to bring her back to the vet, because she is more than likely having a reaction to the treatment! GOOD LUCK! :)
