Why don't liberals understand that government health care results in less freedom?

And I'm not talking about "freedom to choose your health provider" or anything minor like that. When the government is paying for your health care, suddenly any choice that you make that is related to your health is now a decision that the government can get involved in. No trans fats. No smoking. No alcohol. No vices of any kind. Do you want the government THAT involved in your personal life? No? Then pay for your own damned health care.

Update:

"I don't recall seeing the no ding dong or hoho provision."

No? Do a little research on the UK (which this is designed to emulate.) They didn't have a ding dong or hoho provision either. In the beginning anyway.

They just don't. I have tried explaining it till I'm blue in the face and they simply don't want to understand. They also don't seem to understand that reform need not mean a government take over of all, or part, of the system..

Because it isn't true. And when will Conservatives realize that? I have family in Germany and the UK and they feel sorry for us, believe it or not. I think you have to experience both forms of health care, or understand it better, before you can make such a hard and fast observation.

What's the difference between my government getting involved in my health care as opposed to my health insurance company getting involved ? One way or another I'm going to have give up freedoms to get health care except I'll be paying a lot more to whatever health insurance company I choose (I guess that choice is the "freedom" you're talking about).

I am willing to give up a little bit of my freedom for people that have no health care.

How do you figure? Even in a worst case scenario, it couldn't be as bad you try to protray it. Health insurers aren't doing us any favors in case you hadn't noticed. Why are you okay with them in your private life? Ever had a company call and quiz you about a claim?

The government is NOT paying for your healthcare under the proposed reform...if you can't afford insurance you get a supplement or credit and then everyone BUYS their own insurance from the proposed exchange or privately.

I don't support the proposed plan, but at least get your facts right if you are going to argue against the plan.

I come from a country with government funded health care. And I can assure you, NOTHING of what you predict actually happens here.

Seriously, you have no idea how it works.

er... smoking and trans fats have many bans on them already?

that's your big complaint? something the gov. is already doing? lol

I've been to other nations with socialized care... they drink and smoke?

the simple fact is... the gov. can do any of that stuff anyway...

  • 1 decade ago

Currently, your insurance company is telling you, if you get sick, we can drop your insurance. If you smoke or are over weight, we can raise your rates. If you are a diabetic, or have heart disease, sorry Charlie, you aren't insured anymore.

This would not happen with nationalized healthcare. And if you prefer to go to a private insurance provider or just pay out of pocket, you can do that too.

Because the government has taught them to depend on government for whatever you need and not yourself. This results in less ambition and laziness in improving one's situation.

Plus the progressives/liberals are too lazy to read the plan. Yes, I read through it. The govt. will have ALL access to your medical records and bank account. Lets not forgot that this violates the 9th and 10th amendment. Move to Canada if you want free healthcare.

Too bad for you that there is no plan for the government to pay for peoples' health care.

And besides, I don't know of any person on Medicare that has those restrictions, so your whole point is just another right-wing lie.
