wiring my generator to my house?

i am building my home from ground up and i have no out side power lines to my home i am in the wiring stage and need to know how to hook my generator to my breaker box any thing will help "like i said i have not power lines to my house at all" no risk of electrifying a line man.

Update:

this is a older mobile home not house and there is a meter box at the other end of the property but it is not hooked up to the home in any way

with me working the only time i can get out there is at night and well i need light and just so every one knows where my home is according to the city the only codes i have to fallow is wiring

i have done my research and i know the laws but i just was trying to see if i could run my gen to my breaker box. i am still building to city codes but that's what the city of billings mt told me. i have papers to proof it. any more questions just ask i will be happy to anwser them the best i can

You say you are building the house, do you have permits? did you get a bid for a temporary meter base for this.??

You should not be feeding any wires to the panel or the in the house till this thing is inspected. Some one in the house could get a major zap if you have unfinished wiring that is not done yet.

You really need to just fire up your generator and use the 120 volt plug ins and use extension cords if you are still in the process of not being done. You should not be hooking up the panel or the house wiring if it is still in the process and not yet finished.

All new homes either get temporary power and they use cords for the builders or they do use generators but they do not attach to the home with these either, they use extension cords

Not a good Idea to attach anything to the home or the panel till an inspection or at least till al your wiring is completed and safe in the walls and ready for power.

The interior wiring should meet all the codes any other house needs to meet -- make sure all Components are certified to national electrical standards-- for safety--- the generator will have output terminals that you bring the main cables from the main breaker in your circuit breaker panel to the generator unit- I hope the gen set can give a continuous amperage of 30 Amps and is governed to give more on demand-- good luck--

best is to make a pigtail with a plug and wire it to the mains lugs. That way when they go to hook up the main lines, the connection will be visible. A plug will make it easy to disconnect the generator to store it. Surely you don't leave it out to be stolen.

Why hasn't the power company set up temporary power yet? It should have been done well before you go to this point - how do you plan to power your house once it's done - from a generator? Who is wiring the home? They should know how to do it (if not, then they shouldn't be wiring your home!).

Your local utility is letting you down. There is no reason for this. Want to get them out quick? Shoot the pot transformer with a 30/06, maybe a couple times just to be sure. That will get them out there to hook up your power (and replace the transformer).

Stories like this always anger me and my first reaction is to alleviate my frustration, hell or high water. Heck, now I feel like shooting MY pot transformer. But, I'm not that dumb.

I hope you have shares in an oil well those things cost a fortune to run , have you costed it? you don't want to hard wire the house in you need to leave an easy physical break

Sounds like you need to back feed your house.
