Access to medical records?

My employer has asked me for access to my medical records. I have been signed unfit for work by my GP for 2 weeks and have only been off for 8 days and already they are asking to see my medical records. Why would they like to see them? What information are they trying to gain? Is 8 days off reasonable time to ask for medical records?

Thanks

That would depend on the reason being used to determine you unfit to work. Employers have a right to know why you are not at work. Most employers ask for at least a note from the doctor describing your ailment. This does not mean access to all your medical records. Sounds like your job is in jeopardy unless you can give them a reason for your being absent.
