McOldie, the Taliban opposes opium growing because they are hardcore religious fanatics. Opium usage is strictly forbidden by the Qur'an.

Before the US occupation, opium farmers were KILLED by the Taliban.

NOW the opium trade is flourishing. Protected by private mercenaries. Paid for by our tax dollars.

Source(s): The Taliban officially banned opium production in 2000.

The last time we (British) tried it we had to fight two wars to make them take the opium (and even then they only paid us in tea). Do you really fancy war with China? They still learn history so you can bet they won't have forgotten.

A bit like those people who think we could leave the EU and they would still take British goods. I bet the French and Germans remember the 19th century, when we flooded Europe with cheap goods to undercut any of their own factories.

Anyway, some reckon wheat is fetching a better price than poppy in Afghanistan this year.

This was tried in the past by the British. The Chinese, not surprisingly, did not like it. In fact they still hold a grudge.

It was called the Opium Wars !839 to 1832 & 1856 to 1860.

If Americans could get over their addiction to drugs, maybe, just maybe there would be some very positive effects: fewer people crossing the borders to smuggle in drugs, a weaker and much poorer Taliban [easier to defeat], fewer illegals, and workers actually doing something productive.

That would take a valuable source of revenue away from the CIA, they have to pay for their Iranian covert ops somehow.

We can't do that, then how do we feed AMERICA's heroin addiction??

    Duh!!!

Did you know Afghan farmers were growing marijuana before that war started.............and that heroin prices in the U.S. have plummeted since that war started??

If drugs weren't illegal, they wouldn't be nearly as profitable. Who makes illegal drug profits again?? Oh yeah, criminals and terrorist. The War on Drugs is such an awesomely stupid idea, no??
