Best way to get down to NYC?

I'm trying to go to NYC the cheapest way.

So what would that way be best?

Train or bus?

Flying is too expensive.

From Rochester NY to NYC, I'd prefer Queens but I can always be picked up from some place in the city.

Thank you :)

Update:

I can make different stops in other towns and what not.

The best I can tell is to take Amtrak from Rochester to Penn Station in New York City. The on ways fare from Rochester to the city ranges from $55 to $78.

If you're looking for something cheaper, I would recommend take Amtrak to Poughkeepsie and then take Metro-North's Hudson Line from there to Grand Central. The one way fare from Rochester to Poughkeepsie will range from $48 to $68. A round trip off peak ticket from Poughkeepsie to the city wil cost you $29.

Once in the city, you can take the subway to your final destination in Queens. The fare on the subway is $2.25.

    Good luck
