Internet explorer has stopped working on vista (Post spyware removal)?

Recently my laptop with vista was infected by the Vista Antispyware 2010 rogue antispyware program while browsing deviantart.com. I used Google to look up a removal method. I found this page and followed some of the instructions on it.

http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-r...

Here's what I did:

1. Ended the process av.exe

2. Created the fix.reg file and ran it as instructed

3. Downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware and ran a complete system scan, then rebooted as required to remove the detected malware.

That seemed to fix things for a while. Shortly afterward, I was on DeviantArt again when the same thing happened again. I repeated the removal process (including running the fix.reg file a second time) and the problem appeared to be solved once again.

A little while after that I was surfing the web as usual when Vista Antispyware popped up again. This time there seemed to be two different av.exe processes running, and when I closed one a second one would pop up again. There were also some other suspicious looking processes running, so I shut down the computer and started it up again in safe mode. I once again terminated av.exe, ran fix.reg, and scanned the computer with SUPERAntispyware. After the reboot, the spyware was apparently gone, but I encountered some new problems:

When I attempted to start internet explorer, I received an error message saying "application not found". Furthermore, while I am using the computer, an error message regularly pops up saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working", although I do not have Internet Explorer open. I then went back on the website with instructions on removing Vista Antispyware using my other computer, downloaded the exefix_vista.reg file onto a USB drive, and ran it on this computer. However that seems to have been the wrong thing to do since it didn't fix anything. Fortunately Firefox still works, which is the program I am currently using to post this question.

So, can anyone help me out here?

I have just removed this bs from my pc after trying several things that did not work.

These did not work for me. Dont waste you time.

1 - The "Patch" Removal tool downloaded from netstudio. Does something, but dont finish. Stays stuck on Busy. who knows what it did to my pc.

2 - Dr. Web CureIt - did not find any virus

3 - Spyware Doctor - finds virus but does nothing untill you pay

4 - Renaming the exe file - the virus blocks antivirus programs. some say it has a list of exe files to look for and changing the name or extension before running the install will help.... NO.

5 - run anitvirus from safe mode...NO. Virus still runs in safe mode

    What did Work --

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - At first i tried to run this program and virus stopped it from installing, so i tried to run it in safe mode. Virus still stopped it. I tried changing the filename and even changing extension. still wouldnt run. Then i JUST RIGHT CLICKED "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR" and it worked! Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed and found the threat and removed it. FOR FREE! Finally!

During my journey i found a lot of people who tried to make money off this and didnt provide a solution without paying in advance. Who knows if those would have even fixed this problem.

    Thank you Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
