I read that eel blood is poisonous. Is it?

I read it in the Fish chapter of Darina Allen's cookbook "Traditional Irish Cooking."

Update:

Darina Allen explicitly says that only the blood of the eels is toxic. She also says her father and grandfather were very careful to drain evry drop of blood from the eels before having them dipped in batte ror bflour and fried for eating.

She also said she and her siblings watched in sa state of semi-amused horror at the fact the eels were still kind of squirming in the hot pan... .
