Question about breastfeeding with small breasts vs. large breasts?
I'm a smaller breasted girl (small B cup) and I plan to breastfeed when I have my child. I've checked out a lot of images about breastfeeding, and it seems that most show women with larger breasts.
I know size has nothing to do with milk production, but I'm curious about positions for breastfeeding. Is it harder to get a baby into position with small breasts? Do bobby pillows or the breastfriend pillow work as well with small breasts? In most of the pictures I've seen the mothers breasts extend down to the pillows so there isn't (at least the way I look at it) as great a need to bring the baby up to the breast. Do your arms get tired keeping the baby in position?
I'm sorry if this question seems rude or stupid, but I don't know anyone personally that breastfeeds. All of my friends with infants formula feed and only one family member has.

Those are not stupid questions. :)
all of the positions will work the same, cradle, football etc. (there are videos on youtube) But yes you will want a breast feeding pillow or a thick pillow, I have medium sized breast but I have a long torso and they have quite powerfully opposed gravity ;). My arms do not get tired nursing, I do not hold my daughter up, my arm is under her and she lays on that without my muscles being used. It is hard to explain but comes naturally.
Good for you for breastfeeding. :) talk to a lactation consultant they will be able to answer your questions better.

These are not stupid questions!
I breastfed my daughter for 13 months. I was borderline A/B cup before pregnancy and breastfeeding, and went up to a C cup while breastfeeding. I had no problems whatsoever. In fact, judging by my experience, I'm glad I wasn't a large-breasted woman prior to nursing. Due to my smaller than average size, it wasn't impossible for my daughter to fit my areola in her mouth and maintain a good latch. Don't sweat it. You'll be fine.
In regard to positions and using the Boppy, there are ways and positions that you'll find work for you. I enjoyed breastfeeding in a rocking chair with my feet propped up. That way, my daughter was at a perfect level with my breast and didn't have trouble. I have also heard that the "My Brest Friend" pillow is much better than the Boppy since you can position the pillow more securely and not feel like you're straining your back. As a result, I'm trying that pillow with my second child.
You raise an interesting point that it's rare to see photos or video of small-breasted women nursing. I noticed that too, and it really annoyed me. I used photos and videos a lot to help me when I breastfed my first child, and I couldn't understand why only large women were featured.

I'm smaller than you, and much smaller now than I was pre-baby :( sadly. I had no problems with breastfeeding my kids, other than the usual issues- latching on, milk production, etc. The Boppy helped immensely with positioning. I really didn't have to hold my baby up any more than what the pillow offered. Sometimes, I would put another thin pillow under the Boppy to give a little more of a raise. Every body is different though, so you can't really go by anyone else's breastfeeding experience. Try for yourself to see what works best!

Na, once you are in the situation, you and your baby will soon work out what is most comfortable for you. After all, people did this thousands of years before there were instruction booklets and internet ;o)
Yours breasts will be larger when full of milk, btw.
But my wife did fine with much smaller breasts than you - so it's really no problem. You'll find the best positions and so on by experimenting a little yourself.

Your breast will grow 2 or 3 cups larger than it normally is now. I was a 10A and now have gone up to 10C and breastfeeding my 6 month old ever since birth. It's not as difficult. I don't use a pillow or anything.

im a small chested mom and Im currently exclusively breastfeeding my 3 1/2 month old baby. For me its not too hard to get my son in the different positions you can use to feed. At night I use the side by side lying position. But I have a pillow and a folded blanket that if I place it right it puts him right level with my breast. Keeps me from having to hunch over and his neck being crooked. When he was first born I used the football hold or the side by side lying position bc I had surgery and that was easiest for me.

No big deal either way. You find something that works for you. Your boobs do get much larger, plus your lap gets, ahem, smaller, after pregnancy so you shouldn't have much of an issue.
There is a special pillow called a boppy that fits around your waist. You can use it to help hold the baby up close to you.
When you are in the hospital after having your baby, the nurses will help you and show you different positions and holds that you can try until you find the one that you and baby like the best.
