Damm it, too bad to say it?

English is not my mother tongue and I wrote damm it in a text message to my closest friend about something that affected both of us and I received a tongue-lashing for using it. It’s that bad?

I suppose that would depend on your chosen religion. If you are christian then it can be taken very badly. As in you are damning something or someone to hell. In the good ol days that was very foul language but now it is , unfortunately, very common.

It is considered profanity, but it isn't the worst of such terms. If it offends that person, try and avoid it in the future, though, as how people react to such things is very personal. Instead, to express frustration, try "crud", "darn it", arg". Plenty of expletives that are not considered vulgar. An online thesaurus can help greatly, when looking for an alternate word.
