    No, not at all, they're completely different animals. A rat is a placental mammal in the order Rodentia. An opossum is a marsupial in the order Didelphimorphia. They might look vaguely similar, but that is the result of convergent evolution, not any relationship between them.

    No, rats and opossums aren't even closely related. Opossums are marsupials, rats are rodents.

    nope any intelligent person knows that they are North America's only marsupial. (mommas have pouches to raise the young in just like a kangaroo.)

    Opposoms may look like giant rats, but they are actually marsupials, which makes them more closely related to creatures like Kangaroos and Koalas.

    No, rats are rodents while opossum's are marsupials.

    Ecologically yes, they are as destructive as a giant rat because they can destroy crops. They even look like rats.

    Nope;I'm not an ignorant 10yo.

    I've killed hundreds of possum....have actually SEEN the huge differences. Both species have a naked tail-that's about it.
