1) is hypnosis dangerous
Certainly it can be used that way.
2) can they make you do things other than what you went under hypnosis for?
Certainly.
3) i've heard that they can't make you do anything that is against your conscious.
I have heard the same thing, and heard an example from an acquaintance of mine. According to this person, someone hypnotized him and then proceeded to attempt to molest him homosexually. My acquaintance said that even though he was under hypnosis he verbally objected and immediately "woke up".
Though I was not there, I have no reason to believe that this acquaintance was lying (he always seemed honest and was not prone to telling tales), and it certainly seems to me that he described how a person would react. Understand, though, that hypnotism can overcome **inhibitions**. For example: if you want to do something, but consciously refrain from doing it, under hypnosis you *can* be persuaded to do it. It is only the things that you *would* not do - that you do not even want to do - that hypnosis cannot persuade you to do. The typical "you're a duck" (or whatever animal) actually works on people, because people aren't strongly emotionally opposed being a duck.or acting like a duck

The Bible does not speak of hypnosis - that process was not recognized until relatively recently. If hypnosis as it is **commonly** known was being used back then, no one wrote about it.

Of course it works. Your confusing the movies with the real thing. Do all scientists wear white coats, look geeky and shuffle around laboratories? Hypnosis works by taking the mind down to a trance state and making the person do or not do something. How it works is still unknown as the brain is a very complex organ but it's results are astounding. Unfortunately though just because something works doesn't make it scientifically viable which is one of the flaws of scientific thinking but you can go into some hypnosis surgeries and see them at work.

No, hypnosis is not dangerous and what you heard was correct. You will not do anything under hypnosis that you would not have done otherwise. I had a friend who underwent hypnosis to quit smoking and it worked beautifully for him. Another friend tried it and it didn't work at all. The second friend simply didn't really want to quit, so hypnosis was fairly useless for him. Those guys you see at the state fair and other such places - the "hypnotist" and the "volunteers" that do all sorts of odd things - are actually just putting on a stage show. We get the same guy every year at my state fair and at least two of the "volunteers" have been the same for every show I've seen for the past three years - just in case I couldn't figure it out on my own, I suppose! ☺

Depending on the method of hypnosis, whether it's just mind games or not, there is a chance that a skilled hypnotist could make you do anything WITHIN REASON. However, this is rare, and there is some evidence to suggest that your subconscious could prevent anything greatly against your nature from happening.
There is also no evidence of any physical/mental damage to ones own person coming from being hypnotized.
Bottom Line: Allow someone you trust to hypnotize you, and there's no foreseeable danger.

Yes, it can be dangerous. It is linked to 'spiritistic practices'. Under hypnotism you are allowing your thoughts and actions to be governed by outside sources. Those sources would be demons. This applies to the use of ouija boards and seances too. The power of these practices has to come from somewhere and we know it isn't from God. So, you decide. Do you want to allow evil spirits to control you or do you want to put your faith in God?
As you have rightly pointed out ... the word hypnosis is not found in the Bible. Examples of persons whose minds are controlled by demons are, though.
Read Acts 16:16-18
This describes a girl who was possessed by a demon. Hypnotism is the same thing.
Why take a chance???
