how to change the clouth toyoya 1996 takoma x cap 2.7 engine 5 speed?

First of all, I just want to clarify. Did you mean CLUTCH? I think you mean clutch.

I used to have a Toyota Tacoma but different year than yours. Long time ago, I drove 1997 Tacoma 2.7 engine 4X4 5 speed.

If it is a 2-wheel drive, you probably don't have the transfer case. So let's start from tthe beginning :

1) Disconnect the battery first for your own safety.

2) Disoconnect wire harness from the transmission, the speedometer cable; and the clutch cable.

3) Then taking off these things : the stick shift and the starter.

4) Take off the drive shaft.

5) Cross member from the transmission

6) Taking the transmission off.

7) Then take the clutch off.

8) Take Fly wheel off (usually you will take it to the machine shop to resurface it)

And that's about it for taking it off. Taking it back on is another question to be posted on Yahoo!!!

The whole process is not that hard but it is not a "piece of cake" either.

But my recommendation is to purchase an owner manual book. You can buy it on line or at any auto parts store. I'm not sure where you live. But you can google it to find out easily. The owner maual will tell you how to take it apart and reinstall it.

Toyota is such a great truck if well-maintained. And when resale, it still keeps high value. I love Toyota truck. It is fun to drive. Now I own a new one but it is still a Toyota Tacoma. Good luck DIY. And also be safe, too.
