Animal testing for medical research?

I am doing a research paper on animal testing for medical purposes and I just want to know how you feel about this subject. Is it worth putting animals through procedures if it saves your son, your mother, your husband/wife? Or is it not worth it no matter what it saves because we are putting innocent animals through pain and suffering? Please be respectful of every-ones opinion and just let me know what you think.

I agree only if the testing is done humanely. For instance if it weren't for Banting & Best testing insulin on dogs, diabetics would still be dying instead of living into their golden years.
