It is not recommended to plan your Pap smear appointment during a period. Menstrual fluid and blood may make it difficult for the pathologist to interpret results. However, if the flow is light, some doctors will perform a Pap smear. Newer, liquid-based Pap smears can separate cervical cells from mucus and blood, allowing a more accurate reading.

I would recommend that you call your doctor's office. Ask to speak to a nurse or the doctor and inform him that your Pap smear will coincide with your period. You may be asked to reschedule, or be told to keep your appointment. In that case, the doctor will most likely check to see if the flow is light enough to proceed with the test.

Yes, as everyone else has said, you need to rechedule.

I have an irregular period, so I usually make a future appointment the day I start my period. I go to a clinic and most of the time they can take me a week or 10 days later--but sometimes not, so I have to wait.

Unless things have changed, you will need to reschedule. Call and talk to the nurse at your doctors office.

You will need to reschedule your appointment. I think it's better to do it while you're not on your period.

  • You should definetly reschedule! Especially since you just started!

You should reschedule. They don't generally like to do that during that time. Besides if they can't get good results because of it then you'll just have to redo it anyway.

i would reschedule the appointment...its kinda embarrassing to have it done while youre having your menstrual cycle

You can ask your doctor for a new appointment. pap smear can only be done mid cycle after menstruation I think.
