Sims 1 On Windows 7, Need Help?
I installed all of the Sims 1 games that I have and they all installed fine. But I can't start the game up.
I put the proper disc in that I'm meant to run and it says 'Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application'
So I try another disc and it says that new installments have been made and to insert disc to reinstall. So I put a different disc in, but the first message appears. I try every disc and the first message appears. I've restarted the computer, but nothing works.
Can anyone give me a solution? I've installed Sims 2 and played it with no problems at all.

With old games on 7, you always need to run them as administrator. That can fix a lot.
Right click the shortcut, -> Properties -> Compatability -> Run as Administrator
If it still doesnt work, try going back into the same compatability tab and check "Run this program in comptability mode for:" then choose Windows XP Sp3.

The above may be a bit wrong about Windows 7 not taking old games. As I understand it that was the big problem with Windows Vista. Windows 7 will run the stuff as far back as compatible to what would run on Windows XP.
This is a cheaper fix to try: go to an electronics store and see if you can find a product that is supposed to fix scratched up CD's. It's a spray on liquid and a device that helps spread it around the disc. Also you can try and find someone with an XP computer to try to upload to and see if that works for them. If so, it's not the Game it is Windows 7 problem. Then you contact Microsoft for a fix.

I know this is old, but I have an answer.
To install, you need to open up the disc and go into the setup folder and manually click on the setup icon. this will allow you to install everything.
To run, you will need to manually lower your resolution first. I also have the launcher set to compatibility mode xp service pack 3 and run as adminsitrator. So far the lowest res I have sucessfully launched the game in is 1280x720.
The game seems to have an issue with reverting from higher HD settings.
To confirm I have all Sims 1 expansions installed, staring with The Sims Deluxe up to Makin Magic.

the best thing to do is download it off the Internet so search on google 'sims 1 download' and keep on trying to find a download thingy, u might possibly need to buy it off the internet so its saved on your hard drive, when its downloaded, right click it, go down to properties and were it says compatibility tab, click it, tick the box were it says 'Run this in compatibility for' and then threes a box, click the arrow on it and choose the one that says, 'Windows xp (service pack 2)' and hopefully it should work,
if it don't, go and buy it at the shop again because ma by your disk may be scratched or something but remember if you ever download it, you must run it in compatibility mode because windows 7 don't take old games...
