My PC's Vista internet security says I have a virus, but Norton disagrees?
I dont want to take it in to best buy or something because they will charge me like $200. My Vista Internet Security has never done this before, but is now popping up saying my computer is under attack of a virus. I have Norton Anti Virus and did a full scan, but Norton says there were no threats and my computer is fine. But the Vista Security continues to pop up and doesn't let me go on Internet Explorer, a virus threat window pops up and says its blocking me from a "Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen" The Vista Security keeps telling me to purchase New Vista Internet Security for 6 moths, 1 yr or 2 yrs. It is $70 for two years. Do I need to purchase this? Or is it just trying to make me pay for something I don't need; since I already have a virus blocker (Norton Anti Virus) I need to know asap because these things continue to pop up every 2 min and its very annoying lol please help computer geniuses!

Download malwarebytes and superantispyware then run scans with both in safe mode by tapping F8 on startup and selecting safe mode. Run a scan with all both programs and your problem should be fixed.

I agree with the others, it is a fraudulent "Vista Internet Security".
Bleeping Computer has an article about that program and some instructions on how to remove it:

==========
You might not be infected yet, in that the phony Vista Internet Security is claiming you are infected. That web page might have put in a malicious Javascript that keeps running even after you close the webpage because it opened a very minimized web page.
Do this - close all browser windows with Task Manager.
Ctrl Shift Esc will open Task Manager
Select the Applications tab
Select one of the Internet Explorer icons
Click the button labeled End Task
Sometimes it will take a whole minute for Windows to close Internet Explorer (which can happen even when there is no malware at all). If the popups do not return, then you might be free of the virus.
==========
Disconnect from the Internet, reboot the computer. Run a full scan with Norton AntiVirus (I know, it will take a long time). If it finds anything, reboot again and run another full scan, as one malware might have been protecting another malware program from discovery. When the scan reveals nothing, reboot again and connect to the Internet.

Many of us here suggest getting the free version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. Bleeping Computer uses it. It is an on-demand scanner, which means it does not provide real-time protection like Norton AntiVirus provides. But as an on-demand scanner it does not interfere with other legitimate anti-virus programs. You can run it too as a secondary scanner, and it too will take a very long time to perform a full scan.

Vista Internet Security *is* malware.
NO you do NOT click on "Yes." If you do, you *will* become infected with many, many malware items.
The problem lies in the fact that you probably ONLY have Norton Anti-Virus, which detects viruses only but not other forms of malware.
Download and install Malwarebytes from Malwarebytes.org. (Any other source may be compromised.) Run it. It should find any malware. However, it's an on-demand scanner only (unless you pay for it), so it's not the best form of protection. Think of it like using a condom AFTER having sex.
Good Luck!

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:
1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those).
2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.
3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.
4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.
5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.
6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.
7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.
8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.
9. Reinstall your data files.
10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.
Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.
So, what do you do in the future?
1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.
2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.
3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.
4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.
5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.
6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.
7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.
Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.
Good luck!

Vista Internet Security is a type of malware called scareware. It tries to tell you to download this anti-virus program (which is actually malware itself) because you have a virus. Just ignore the Vista Internet Security pop-ups, and maybe update your security software - Norton isn't the best. This article may help: http://askbobrankin.com/free_antivirus_programs.ht...

You cannot install 2 anti viruses at the same time. Both Trend and Norton have it Pros and Cons. The worst thing about Norton that turns off user is its high RAM usage, which slows the computer, but both are good. Why go for paid ones, when you can get free ones like AVG which is much much better than either of the 2. I used to use Norton, but now I have shifted to AVG. If you want to install 2 AntiVirus then install ThreatFire in addition to the normal one that you will use. It is the only antivirus that is made as a secondary antivirus and not as the primary one and lets you install another antivirus. Its free also.

Don't buy anything it's a scam.
Try running a Malwarebytes scan. Let it remove everything it finds. So make sure you click remove selected after scan is finished. Also after you download the free version it's important to click the update tab and let Malwarebytes update before scanning with it.
