    You will have to pay..

You need a unique access card!

Each receiver has an access card that with a number that matches up to your account. You can call them and they'll give you a new card, but you have to pay the extra fee for the extra receiver

If you don't have an account yet, you can always sign up and get free receivers - http://www.blogtelevision.net/directv-hd.html

you can but keep it to your self. first thing you will need is to live in the same area as your friend to get the locals.next you need to install a dish to get the signal. hd dish for a hd receiver and standard dish for a basic. last is have your friend call up and order another receiver, it will cost five bucks. goodluck

It will not work or at least not long.

Additionally, odds are that your friend does not even own those receivers, which will cause another problem if he gives them away and doesn't turn them in.

No because the smart card inside the receiver is linked to his account and once they try to bill it again they will deactivate the receiver.

To be fully legal, you need to get the box moved to your account, and probably get a new card.
