Was there really been a Pedophile Pope in the Middle Ages? I heard it but don't remember who it was, help?

Julius III in the 1500s? Of course it can't be proven that he was having sex with his "adoptive nephew", but they did share a bed. He probably wasn't the 1st pope with this particular vice; he was just the most open about it.

There were a lot of corrupt popes in the Church's history. There were more prayerful, holy popes even though they aren't as much fun to gossip about in the history books.

OH, the potential answers to that question.

    ;=)

The short and best answer is that it's impossible to know for sure.

I often wonder if the whole priest-pedophile affair is driven by the secret belief that somewhere there is someone having entirely too much fun, and if we can't have fun, at least we will hurt those who are having the fun.

It's the old game of tearing down when we lack the creativity to build up. We tear down others when we would do so much better in building ourselves up.

Paedophile activity did occur among the clergy in the Middle Ages. You might want to google the word 'catamite'.

It wasn't restricted to highly placed officials of the Church. Others in positions of authority took advantage of their power in ways like that as well.

Don't remember that one, but the Pope Joan myth may be real:
