It really depends on which of the 5 definitions of Religions you mean

    1. beliefs and worship:

people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of God, a god, or gods, and divine involvement in the universe and human life.

    2. system:

an institutionalised or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine

    3. personal beliefs or values:

a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by

    4. obsession:

an object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by

    • The danger is that you start to make fitness a religion.

    5 monk’s or nun’s life:

Christianity life as a monk or a nun, especially in the Roman Catholic Church

Religion is more a need to respond to something or someone. It helps if there is a sense of well being or a response in return.

As a Buddhist I've learned that it depends on your Karma how you are treated by people. If somebody treats you bad you shouldn't be angry about it because maybe you have a "karmic dept" with this person - be patient and it will go away. If you receive love from somebody it's your good Karma - and love is the true state of our mind. In Buddhism we also learn that it is more important trying to give people your love and energy - more than looking out to receive something. So be generous - and people will love you :-)

I'm not sure whether religion "as a whole" is, but on an individual level I'm sure it serves that purpose for a lot of people yes.

I suppose the great thing about a loving god (for those who believe in one) is that it is an unconditional love whereas none of us ever really knows if other people will always love us unconditionally, those who believe in god can believe that god will always love them unconditionally no matter what they do, and they find that thought very comforting.

Also, they know that nobody can ever disprove that idea and god himself will never tell them he no longer loves them (because he never tells anyone anything!)

Religion causes believers to act in ways that are illogical and irrational and then they try to present religion a s the basis for being right and then they try to protect what they now live in which is called illusions, by making up untruths about it. It is an old and used up illusion and should be dismantled by law

  • There are two needs to be loved. One is spiritual, the other is physical.Religion may help one discover his/her spiritual needs to unite/re-unite with their creator, and physical/mental sharing with another person may meet the human physical need for love. Adam walked with God in the garden, but God also gave Adam Eve, meeting both needs.

Religion can be a womb that leads to being born of God.

When religion leads you to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away our sins... Who redeems us... Then that is the satisfaction and all our needs being met by God. To be loved by someone who is always faithful and promises to never leave nor forsake us.

So God then is the one who gives us security and blessed assurance (hope) that we are loved even if our spouse or others we love let us down. For no one can fill our every need like Jesus can.

there is first of all need to create a relegion which Krishna mentions as SANATAN DHARMA means a relegion for all.

All relegion teach this fact to love God be it christian muslim or hindu. what can be done if people misuse relegion in name of there own self interest. Just think was it not harmony in society before britishers were ruling. muslims and hindus were nt united then. what made it to distort?

No, it fills a void some people have that manifests as a morbid fear of what happens when one dies. By coming up with some sort of afterlife that is beautiful and perfect it makes the alternative to living sound a little more palatable and makes it easier to not dwell on that fear.

Religion is mostly used to justify the actions of religious people.
