School talent show has inappropriate dancers?
My kids' school does an annual talent show. All of the participants are K-5th. Many of the acts are young girls doing little dance or gymnastics routines. All well and good.
Tonight was dress reheresal and the 2nd act was 2 4th grade girls doing a dance. It was obvious they worked very hard on the choreography and were well practiced. However, it was a lot of shimmy, hip shaking, butt rolling, pelvis thrusting kind of dancing. Think Beyonce and you have it about right.
Am I the only parent who things that 10 yr olds doing that kind of performance is inappropriate? Does this warrant attention in any way? Or would you think that kind of performance just 'cute' on children?

maybe it's not appropriate, but then, a 10 yr DOESN'T think of hip shaking, butt rolling, pelvis thrusting as being "sexual" either. That's just how adults see it as. To kids, it's just a fun way of dancing. It's how they see thier fav singers dance on TV. Ive seen dancing like that on like ICarly or other disney shows. Either way, it's just dancing. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Wow that is not cute.
That is way Beyonce-ized (saying sexualized but in Beyonce way!)
I wouldnt like my daughter do that, I would do little song, little insturment performance, dance or routine of something. I would go TOOOO far!
I think they are bad role models for the children, because then the little kids might be asking their parents "Mommy, I want to do a stripper pole routine, next year."
I would do something nice, kid friendly and simple for 90 seconds, and then go.
Hey, the parents will have a big responsibility in years to come with talent shows, it is the parents fault. I would not let my daughter do a Beyonce routine until she was WAY older.
It is obviously attention, maybe not the girls want it, but the parents..
I can imagine that dress, when they would perform, I would take my daughter out of the room when they performed!
Not cute, this talent show reminds me of glitz beauty pageants.
Did you hear that they are putting glitz into talent shows?
Innapropriate. I personally think it is the parents fault. Horrible parents who think that is okay. The End!

I think your mom has the final and most important say in the matter, but I think it is fine. I'm a high school senior, and some of my peers dress similarly, just try not to advertise the cigarettes and loose the playboy logos on the costume and I don't there's any problem with it at all.

that is not cute at all
i think you should talk to the principle or something because i am in 5th grade and i don't think that is cute at all i would never do something like that until like the 8th or 9th grade maybe even longer. my family would disapprove and so do i
they are to young to be doing things like that,so i think doing that kind of performance is inappropriate even if they did put a lot of work into it
they are way way way way waay to young

The way i would look at it is that they most be watching the wrong things on tv for a 4th grader. or its bcuz something that there parent r showing them like music videos. i have a 9 yr old girl and for her 2 see kissing on tv is like THE ENE OF THE WORLD! and she wants to change the show. and that's how they should be at that age. girls try 2 act so much older than they r these days becuz of wht they c on TV and the lack of values taught by thier parents. they rly dont kno any better becuz both those r so influential, but its hard 2 beleive the school would let a dance thts 2 inappropriate even enter the show...

It is the parents fault they have sexualised their little girls under the guise that it is cute. Shame on the parents. The school should have cought this sooner than that.

It is not cute, it is dirty. There is no reason to sexualize children --- or let them unwittingly sexualize themselves.
