Why do people say that the US is the most racist country on earth when it is clearly not?
As a guy who has been to Australia, UK, France, Japan, India (I am Indian), Sweden, and Italy I can say that America is definitely the least racist country on earth, only Canada can compare. I live in the deep south currently, even though I have seen some racist insults fly, none of them have been serious and this part is supposed to be the most racist part of America. In the Northeast and out west, racism just doesn't happen as much and usually the people keep the racism to themselves.
When I went to the following countries, here were my experiences.
1. Australia - saw someone throw a beer bottle towards my dad's direction and told him "go back to your own country you curry muncher". Then some lady called the police on us when we were jogging in the park, a lot of the White Australians froze up and gave us mean stares.
2. UK - always heard racism from the Whites on one side and on the other side my fellow Indians were racist to me because I was not raised in the UK like they were. I was not even able to attend the majority White schools there and there were little to no minorities at those schools. My uncle lives there and he was once beaten because his daughter would not date this White guy there, the people beat him because he would not let his daughter "move up in society".
In France and Italy it was not that bad but in those two countries above the racism was certainly present. In the US I do not run into racism and I have been accepted for who I am. I have Indian family members in other countries and they complain of discrimination and racism, some beg my parents to let them stay in America.
So, why do people even say it is the most racist country? I know we have had a racist history but haven't all nations?

People like to bash the states for lots of reasons. But you're right, it may not be the MOST racist nation. I've lived elsewhere, and those places had their problems too regarding race.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, especially in Australia (where I live). I depends on where you go in these places. Only one effed up person threw a glass bottle in your dad's direction probably because
a) he doesn't know what century it is
b) he's drugged
c) he's just a racist idiot
That lady was probably old and can join that other drooling fossil in the 19th century, yes, some people are racist like in every country. Unless you've personally met everyone, then you can't make these judgements about what country is more racist.
I've never been to America, so I can't say that they're racist or not. Just ignore the bad people and look towards the better people. I hope you enjoy your stay in those countries better next time.

Because you are gullible enough to accept this idea. Start thinking about issue instead of just reacting to them. Sarcozy just came out with the opinion that there are too many foreigners in France. In Eastern Europe, celebrities have spoken out against the extreme persecution of Gypsies there. And these are issues just off the top of my head. If you thought for yourself, you would have at least given some examples of being "the most racist" country. Don't be a TOOL!

Right. Well this was very interesting and all, but it's not really an accurate gauge for racism levels is it? America is definately NOT the least racist country on Earth; not in the slightest. That's a ridiculous statement to make. You only have to look at a) your prisons and your police force, b) comments from American's on sites like this and c) articles such as the above showing just how bad a lot of you can be. This is a nice little defense for your home country, and I'm sure your other fellow American's are pleased that they can rally around you and defend themselves, but really. Both the UK and Australia are struggling to cope with Indian immigration at the moment, which may explain heightened tensions in the two countries, but generally they are very tolerant of other nations.
But anyway, back to the USA. Now a friend of mine went to the USA a while back. He is Arabic. You guys may not have much problems with Blacks nowadays, but you damn well do with those guys. He got stopped at the airport, questioned by police, called turbanhead in the streets, given suspicious looks in the streets, and was damn near abused when he so much even asked for help for directions. They all thought he was a terrorist because of his skin colour. Say what you like, but that is racist. And some segments of the US are still racist. It can't be denied. As you said 'in the Northeast and West' they aren't as racist as in the days of yore- but thats leaving out some pretty big chunks of the country isn't it? I'm fairly sure the majority of Blacks and Hispanics live in the South, and, coincidentally, that is where there is the most racism.
And Canada, New Zealand and Scandanavian countries are all far more tolerant.

We are the most racially diverse country, it's easy to deny racial problems when you are a homogeneous society. Japan is horribly racist, they consider low birth rate their biggest problem while the rest of the world suffers from overpopulation. Baby girls are literally thrown away in China (a 90 minute flight from Japan) and yet Japanese are too racist to adopt or open their society to more foreigners. You have to put your family lineage on your university application! And don't get me started on job discrimination. Seriously, how racially diverse is Sweden?

The US is certainly not the most racist, in fact it is the most diverse of all nations. I think the fact that the US is so diverse causes more of a difference of opinions added to the fact that in the US freedom of speech is highly valued is probably what contributes to the rumors of US being most racist. We are just more vocal and free with our opinions.

Minorities in America really take their rights for granted because they're so spoiled. For example, they overuse their right to free speech to ***** about the supposed injustice that's done to them when they don't get everything handed to them. It's really disgusting, and I wish they would all get sent back to their own countries so they could see what a hard life is really like, and leave those of us who actually work for our freedom alone.

American slogan claim to be "Land of Opportunity" "Freedom" Freedom of Speech" and etc doesn't match up with everybody. People outside the US are flocking here for the American Dream. To top it off we are told to go back to our Motherland after fore parent being brought here to slavery and abuse.

Fun fact: In the Islamic world, blacks (or even dark-skinned people in general) are known as "Abd" meaning "slave".

Truth is there's not much contact between blacks and whites because of the white flight whites engaged in after denying blacks all of their rights and impoverishing them. Directly after they all took off with society's wealth and keep their distance except of course to milk the issues in the black community over the news and make fun of blacks behind their backs over the internet from their middle-class homes. As a result, there tends to be less racism in human interaction between blacks and whites because of limited access. You have one group stuck in ghettoes struggling for the most part while the other group judges that racial group from the safety of their internets in the suburbs questions and criticizing everything they do and criticize their struggling state.
Blacks and whites mainly come past each other in this country when it comes to law enforcement where there's racial profiling and the job world where there's also a great deal discrimination in hiring. U.S. racism is more in terms of racial discrimination such as in regards to the job world and law enforcement. We have pretty much improved in terms of just normal interaction since the 1970s or so but our closeted racial level is probably worse than those countires. Lot's of discrimination goes on in subtle ways in the U.S. Ex. We have tougher penalties in law enforcement between whites and blacks. There's huge disparity and a black person can expect much harsher treatment by the law in general.
As far as open blatant racism goes, I think Europe is also bad because I heard the all-white crowd will openly slur and raciall harass black athletes. Disgusting!
