How would you argue with a racist?

You DON'T argue with a racist.

Anyone who takes such an anti-social stance, and allows the public to know about it, is not going to be convinced he's wrong.

The basic problem with racists is that they are stuck on a skin tone. If they actually based their opinions on scientific data- DNA- they would not even care about the color of the skin. We all came from Africa. At this point in time we have different skin tones and eye shapes because our DNA has adapted us to our environment. Those who did not migrate from Africa 100, 000 or so years ago stayed dark to shield them from the harsh sun. Those who migrated to colder areas developed lighter skin because they did not need the melanin, and some developed an epicanthal fold to help shield their eyes from snow glare. Blue eyes are a DNA mutation, as well. So after all that typing I am just saying that racists are stupid.

Any arguments about black or white culture are moot because they are based upon opinion. Who is to say the music of Mozart is more beautiful than the blues of BB King? It is subjective and futile. Personally, I love them both, and I am what one would consider "white".

But consider "white" as race- it includes Spanish, Italian, German, Scottish, and many, many others. How can one even classify black and white?

It is a ridiculous argument- we are all the same when you break down to flesh, bone and blood. If you are dying in the hospital you don't get to choose black or white blood or an organ donor by race.

The world is becoming more mixed every day. The only "pure" races left are Aborigines and some of the most remote tribes of South America and Africa. If you were to do a DNA test for genealogy you would likely be surprised. We are all one family. Lets get along!

He is credited with writing the first real novel and his work had massive cultural influence both in his time and in modern novels across several nations and is translated into dozens of languages. The fact that you know Twain and not Shikibu is because you were raised in a cultural dominated by European ethnic groups. Shikibu is likely known to a much higher number of people worldwide, they are just Asian people instead of Europeans, so he is off of your radar. It is important to consider the fact that the reason you don't know non-white artists is because you live in a culture that actively ignores quality black novelists. I challenge you to read books by Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, or Ida Wells-Barnett or any of the other great unsung black novelists. Charles W. Chestnut in particular was known for complex narrative structures, political themes, and psychological complexity that was appropriated by many famous white writers of the twenties and thirties. Did you know that a black slave was the artist who created the sculpture that decorates the top of the US Capitol building? And what about precolonial African art, not the least of which is the pyramids and the Sphinx. The first Pharaohs of Egypt came from the middle of Africa, they weren't white people. Ever appreciated any Spanish architecture from before the late 1400s? You do know that the Berbers who built those palaces in Spain were the very black ancestors of the also black Moors?

As I am sure you know, disagreements about what constitutes good art often have no basis other than personal opinion and cultural bias. What makes classical music superior to jazz or blues (btw, what is Mozart's Requiem by an expression of pain?)? I strongly prefer Ma Rainey to the Beatles. 'Beautiful music' is a pretty subjective term. How is this guitar solo by BB King http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ny5ajCn0xw inferior to a Chopin piano solo? Your friend is presupposing that art created by white people and European cultures is superior. There is no objective fact to the matter of whether Dickens or Baldwin was a better writer. We can discuss influence, language uses, etc., but so much of how we determine art quality is just opinion.

Ask him what defines race then how those things determine all the things he claimed each race is good at. In reality he can not give an answer to that eg race is based on physical traits such as skin tone, facial features and hair texture otherwise all humans are identical. I dont know how any of those can determine anything he claimed. Also the beatles were rock artists and rock has its origins in the African American communities rock and roll has he not heard of Jimmy Hendrix. Some people also claim Beethoven was biracial (black & white) I dont know if its true though. Also doesnt he know Michael Jackson is the best etertainer of all time? Then you would have to state to him for those things he claims be exclusive to one race it has to be impossible for a person of another race to replicate it eg an south Asian or black person can learn classical music same way a white person can perform rap music eg Eminem and he is good at it so then those things cant be exclusive to a certain race.

Unless all black people are good sprinters he can not claim black people are good sprinters.

Basically you can not generalize or stereotype a race because race is based on generalizing people on certain physical traits but as long as you cant generalize 100% of those people on other things eg sports, intelligence, creativity etc you cant possibly claim such nonsense.
