Union in my area is 33$ and some change
When we do side jobs we give them just a total bid based on Sq. Feet
But then again I also do Acoustical "drop" ceilings
I would say if you find someone in between 20 - 50$ an hour that would be reasonable, Like you said different jobs mean different money. Try to research what job you are going to have done and see how difficult it is.
You could even ask online about the specific job to get an idea of what they should be charging

Depends on where you live and the economy there. I charged $35.00 the first hour and $25.00 every hour after. 15 minutes being the increment. It also depends on the job the higher the risk or chance of something going wrong the higher the wage. Some states or areas are cheaper to live in then others so prices could very accordingly. If you can find one that is bonded and insured that is good and will cost a little more. The insurance is a little expensive. This was ten years ago and then was considered a deal. i wouldn't be surprised at $90.00 the first hour today.
