Why are there so many media outlets dealing with celebrities?
Do we really need to know the intimate details of so and so's private lives? No. So why do we spend so much time and effort prying into details that if it were us in that position, we wouldn't want anyone else prying in to.

No.... we don't need to know but people, for some strange reason, want to know so they continue watching TMZ and reading the National Inquirer. I'm too busy concentrating on my own life to worry about what someone I don't even know is doing or wearing.

It`s all about money.
Mostly, money for the media that promulgates celebrities: films, tv progs, magazines, newspapers, CD`s.
But remember - these things do not sell unless millions of people are interested in the said celebrities and will buy their stuff...and want to read and hear all about them.
How and why are so many people interested in them?
Because the media promulgates them! (and normal life can be pretty dull).
It`s a self-perpetuating thing - first come the celebrity, then comes the media, then comes the fans....and so on.
