My 6 years old daughter is diagnosed with weak eyesight....?

.....the Doctor said that the distance between lens and retina is more than 24 mm (25-26 mm) and so her eyesight is weak. He recommended wearing Glasses and said that there is no other solution to this problem. I was surprised that my kid actually had weak eyesight although she regularly eats good, healthy, nutritiuos food with fruits & vegetables. She has no other disease. She only sufferes with one problem - Tonsilitis. She catches cold and sore throat very easily whenever weather changes. I wonder if there is actually no medical remedy for her weak eyes ? Should I take her to some other doctor for a second opinion ? I live in new Delhi, India.

The distance between retina and lens is more it is called myopia and if it is less it is called hypermetropia. Donot bother , it is physiological condition and not a disease. It is disease only when the distanece goes on increasing and it is called as progressive myopia or pathological myopia,

So what you have to do about your daughter,

    1. Watch her myopic number , is it progressive . For that contact every year to the eye specialist.

2.Avoid heavy near work like reading ours together, and aviod computer games.

3.give her well nurished regular food.

4.If the number is high lasic operation or zyoptics can be done after consulting eye surgeon.

this is only for cosmetic purpose and it is not the treatment. She can were spects if she is comfortable. Operation is indicated only when the number is stationary and not progressive............. note it .Thank you all the best.

You're very correct in showing concern. Kids these days look and some act more mature, however, mentally they are not mature enough for serious relationships especially at 12 years old. Holding hands is one thing, but kissing is a more emotional stance in a relationship than one might think, especially when you factor in a 12 year old girl. Trust your gut instincts. And its never too early to prepare and talk with your daughter, because kids will be kids.

If she has recently started school, sometimes straining of the eyes causes the need for glasses. The food she eats has very little to do with the physical reason for needing glasses. Actually, a lot of people who do need them do not realize it because they have never had their eyes checked and have never been given the chance to "see" what they are missing. She may actually outgrow this as she matures and she may not need to wear them all the time; only for distance vision.

Theres no cure for weak eyesight. If the doctor has prescribed glasses then its correct. You can always go for a second opinion. Even I have glasses. I've had them since when I was in KG.

What's wrong with glasses? Get them for her. Her weak eyes might be a genetic condition. Anyone in your family or your husband's family have "weak" eyes? Regardless get her the glasses and help her be the best she can be. Nobody is perfect.
