What is this "20 characters" that I see in some questions?

I see it, mostly from kids with silly polls. (not putting you down, kids. Silly polls are fine for those who are interested in them. I'm just a crabby old woman (^8 ) What does the "20 characters" refer to? It would be a very short answer if that was the limit.

Thanks to anyone who answers!

Update:

Thank you!

Actually, I think it's a helpful rule. So many questions are too short to make sense, or they aren't clear about what the asker wants to know. If a person actually put words in instead of ...... , they might get better answers because we could understand the question better.

Lazy askers don't deserve good answers.

Update 2:

OK,I still hold that its a sensible rule, and anyone who is too lazy or stupid to write out a question with at least 20 characters doesn't really want a meaningful answer. How many times do you see someone just say Help Me?!!!!! (20 characters) - and their question could be anything from "How do I train a horse to collect?" to "I need a new name for my widdle pet ponypoo?"? The people who want to answer one question have no interest in the other, so give us some info in the heading, please.

Those who call the rule stupid and retarded sound like they're looking in a mirror.

Thanks to all who answered. I can't pick a best answer because they all say the same thing and they're all either telling us they're stupid, or their answers are full of misspellings. THE PROGRAM HAS A SPELL CHECK! USE IT!

The headline to the question must contain at least 20 characters. I assume the program adds the "(20 characters)" just to fill it out if it is too short.

Hi Bliss, the 20 characters in questions is for the main headline on the Y/A you have to have 20 characters. Im not sure why but people say that as a way to use up space. Other wise they wont let you ask the question. Im not sure why but thats why it has "20 characters" in the main headline. Hope this helps! :)

The title of the question has to have 20 characters in order for Y!A to publish it. So if the title of their question is not long enough, they just add (20 characters) after it in order to make it long enough.

All that to say, some people in the horse section know the secret to the 20 character issue lol, there is a way to get around it. :P

A question needs to be at least 20 Characters long, if it isnt then Yahoo! wont let you post it so to fill in the spaces people just put in brackets (20 Characters)

Hope this answers your question ♥

If your question is less that 20 characters long the site won't accept it so some people copy and paste the 20 characters bit. Its a stupid rule.

You'll also see people adding continue marks (e.g ........) just to make up the characters too.

the question you post must be at the least 20 characters and if they have a small/short question then they just put that to fill in the space so they don't have to make the question longer.

just an easier way to fill up the 20 characters(:

    hope this helped!

it's the fact that if you main question isn't 20 characters or more, they won't let you paste it on the site. it's a really retarded rule. i mean, why does it need to be 20 characters, really?

but this doesn't have any thing to do with horses.

    Happy Trails!

and bliss, it doesn't have to get the answerers more info. that's what the information part is for. dah!
