Both the US and Mexico allow dual citizenship without losing the other. When you become a US citizen, nothing happens to your Mexican citizenship.

You just apply for US citizenship using the form N-400.

I'm not sure what would happen to your Mexican citizenship if you were to become a US citizen.

I can understand why someone would want to have the benefits of dual citizenship.

I know that many people have dual citizenship as a result of birth. I read the Mexican constitution of 1917 and a person is considered a Mexican citizen if they're born within Mexican borders, or if one parent is a Mexican citizen. For example, a woman, born and raised in Florida, marries a guy who was born in Mexico to Mexican parents. They move to Cuernavaca (Mexico) and have a kid, who is born in Cuernavaca. He's a US citizen AND a Mexican citizen. Just an example.

How to acquire dual citizenship is a question that merits good legal counsel.

Have you talked to an attorney? I would talk to an immigration lawyer. It's understandable that you are interested in this option. That other poster that called you a traiter doesn't understand. You've moved to this country and started a new life but you don't want to be cut off from the country where your roots, your heritage, and your loved ones are. I have two "homes" like you, so I can understand what you're saying.

Loyalty?? Mexico is a friend of the United States... and we're their friend. We're certainly not at war with Mexico.

I think that getting some good legal advice is a good first step :-)

Double citizenship, as you put it, is for traitors only. You can only be loyal to one of these two countries. NOT BOTH.

So which country are you a traitor too?
