I disagree. Take apart a pistol, which is certainly an ordered set of parts. Some are big and heavy, some are tiny, any many are unique or asymmetrical. There is no indication of balance. Yet there is certainly order.

Look at an organization. There are administrators, managers, and workers. I don't know how we'd apply the concept of balance to that -

No I don't find balance to be appropriately considered an element, let alone a foundational element, of order.

Yes, if you want 'order' you need to do your balancing act first. If you want harmony in your life you need to be well-balanced. Happiness is achieved through this balancing act. The food you take must be well-balanced. Not too much carbohydrates and too little protein, for example. Your lifestyle must be well-balanced. Not too much work and little play. Even when you are driving you should be balanced, not too fast or too slow. So, yes, balance is one of the fundamental elements of 'order'.

  • In theory, you couldn't have one without the other.

But life is always decaying in one form or another, so entropy usually disrupts any order that we may try to anticipate by watching for counter-balancing elements to play out.

A logical statement for a textbook story on a crises in the foundation.
