Problem with iPod Nano and iTunes. Please help?

I bought a new iPod this week and after I listen to a song and plug it into iTunes the song/s does not appear in my recently played playlist, also the last played date is not updated and the play count is not updated

How do I sort this out?

Update:

Nicole-The last iPod I had would add the recently played songs onto iTunes

The songs on your iPod have to be on iTunes for it to be in the recently played playlist. If the songs are on Itunes you'll probably have to play that song a lot of times for it to be in the recently played playlist.

If the playlist's date and counting isnt up to date you'll have to install iTunes again.

The recently played songs are those who you have played in iTunes itself.

    Same as the other songs.

iTunes keeps a record only of what it itself does. When you synch your iPod with iTunes the only data that will be exchanged will be additional items downloaded into iTunes... not the recent items played on the iPod. I hope this helps.
