Do you have to do character dance?

Usually if you're going into Dance that has grades E.g the RAD (Royal Academy Of Dance) Syllabus that goes up to grade 8 then you'll usually do 4 sections.

Barre, Classical/center work, Free movement and then Character. You'll either do a Classical or Free movement dance and then you'll do a character dance, this is for your exams and you'll learn all this in class.

If you're doing the Major Vocational exams, then you won't do Character, you'll just do Barre, Classical/Center, and Pointe work.

Then again though, If you're a beginner then you wont be put into the Major grades E.g Intermediate Adv 1, Adv 2.

You'll probably be put into a graded class of your ability.

character dance is part of the syllabus and you can't really take ballet classes because they are all graded. i think you have to just do character.its not bad at all its pretty fun really :Pxx
